India’s Tibetan exiles recall arduous journeys to ‘freedom’

DHARAMSHALA, India (AFP) — Tenzin Choeden bends her head reverentially over the yellowing pages of a Tibetan prayer book as her fingers slip over the beads of her rosary.

“I was offering thanksgiving prayers for safely reaching India,” says the 24-year-old nun, one of the last to flee Tibet before violence between protesters and security forces that has killed around 140 people, according to figures by the Tibetan-government-in-exile in India. . .
